In this month’s architecture and design video round-up (above), Madrid-based design office Puntofilipino leant into the legacy of artists who travel to Spain’s Andalusian coast when creating the Casa R+1 residence in Almería. Aligned with the commencement of this year’s Milan Design Week, legendary Italian ceramics-maker Bitossi has unveiled The Bitossi Archive Museum in Florence.

Also making its debut during this year’s Milan Design Week, Venus Power is a collection of rugs by Patricia Urquiola created for Italian design company cc-tapis. In Denmark, the Wadden Sea National Park on the country’s west coast has a new attraction – a 25-metre-high lookout by BIG architects that spirals upward from the landscape like the pointy end of a corkscrew. 

In Kyiv, Ukraine, the recently completed 6:19 Studio by Balbek Bureau walks the line between tattoo parlour and contemporary art gallery. And, finally this month, Beijing-based MAD Architects has unveiled its designs for the Hainan Science and Technology Museum in Haikou, the capital of Hainan, one of China’s island provinces.

Casa R+1 residence by Puntofilipino
Pattern and texture unites in the living room of Casa R+1 by Puntofilipino.
  • Spanish escape: Conceived by Puntofilipino as an urban oasis for a couple working in the construction industry, the Casa R+1 residence is inspired by artists who have long travelled to Spain’s Andalusian coast in search of a tranquil haven. Read more.

  • Wonder woman: Created by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola for cc-tapis, the Venus Power collection of rugs embraces strong feminine energy through hypnotising colours and graffiti-like lettering that spells out the message “We all come from Venus”. Read more.
Marsk Tower in Denmark by BIG architects
The spiralling steel lookout by BIG architects rises from the Marsk Camp vacation spot in Denmark.
  • Big steps: Visited primarily for its abundance of birdlife and fresh oysters, the Wadden Sea National Park on the west coast of Denmark has a new attraction – a 25-metre-high lookout that spirals upward from the landscape like the pointy end of a corkscrew. Read more.

  • Natural high: Set against a backdrop of verdant tropical rainforest, the main pavilion of the Hainan Science and Technology Museum by MAD Architects appears to be shaped like a cloud in dialogue with nature. Read more.
