WATCH: Global architecture and design highlights, including the La Samaritaine’s private shopping suites.

After several years of renovation and careful restoration, the iconic La Samaritaine department store in Paris has reopened its doors. While Japanese architecture practice SANAA is responsible for bringing a new rippled glass facade to the LVMH-owned shopping precinct, a trio of interior designers from the Atelieramo collective formed especially for the project. They were tasked with invigorating the store’s 19th-century bones with a series of luxurious moments.

Called upon for their elegant, passionate and unique approach to Parisian style, interior designers Chloé Nègre, Karine Chahin and Virginie de Graveron of Atelieramo established the new vision for the most glamorous apartment areas of the department store. Including the Prestige Lounge on the upper levels of the store, which is dedicated to the personal shopping experiences of VIP customers.

The trio also refitted La Samaritaine’s private jewellery rooms, the Conciergerie counter and installed iconic pieces of French and Italian furniture and lighting on multiple levels. Inspired by “the motley style of Parisian apartments”, the designers say they combined bespoke pieces and revamped antiques with custom-designed carpets and frescoes – the fruit of a series of artistic collaborations.
