A former bank building in Stockholm became world-famous in 1973 when a robbery occurred, a dramatic six-day hostage situation unfurled and the phrase ‘Stockholm syndrome’ was uttered for the very first time. The term would go on to label the inexplicable bond formed between hostages and their captors, not just in Sweden but all around the globe.

Vast, mysterious and unfathomably deep, the world’s oceans are at the heart of the new boutique for jewellery brand Sarah & Sebastian, located in Melbourne's upmarket Armadale. But expel any visions of a twinkling Tiffany store or crystal-cut Cartier shopfront. This eerie cave of wondrous delights is sooner compared to Davy Jones’ Locker or Ursula’s lair over any glitz-and-glam engagement ring dispensary.

For the second consecutive year, renowned interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch worked on the retail space for Villa Noailles, an arts centre in the provincial commune of Hyères. Located on the French Riviera, it's a region the Nice-born designer knows well.

“I am fortunate to have a great and friendly working relationship with Jean-Pierre Blanc, founder of the Hyères International Fashion and Photography Festival, the Hyères Design Parade (dedicated to design) and the Toulon Design Parade (dedicated to interior architecture),” says Pierre.

Multi-disciplinary firm Say Architects has conceived the pared-back Angleot in Hangzhou, China – a patisserie that challenges the senses and tradition in equal measure. Presented with an awkward storefront that was mostly blocked by an existing ventilation shaft, and an unsightly view from the rear of the site, the design team opted to create an experience that looks within, plays with light and fragrance, and unfolds slowly.

Occupying a 120-square-metre space in Coastal City, the retail precinct of Nanshan’s CBD, the trippy concept store belonging to minimalist womenswear brand Geijeong dazzles with its layered use of reflective, translucent and transparent materials. The interior designers, Chinese firm Studio 10, say that the futuristic fit-out “explores the interactivity between materials, light transmission, refraction, reflection and fabric”.

Housed under a "cantilevered tree canopy" roof structure, Apple Central World in Bangkok was "brought to life with the first-ever all-glass design," says the tech giant. Located in the heart of Ratchaprasong, Bangkok’s iconic intersection district, the striking store forms a new social subject in this part of the city and joins the backdrop of the capital's famed New Year celebrations.

Relocating from its Elizabeth Street premises in Sydney, the brand has drawn back the curtains on its new 800 square metre emporium sited within the Trust Building at the intersection of King Street and Castlereagh Street.
