Aesthetes everywhere, prepare to unleash your credit cards. Australia’s international art fair, Sydney Contemporary, has just launched an impressive online showcase which not only responds to the global pandemic climate, it aims to bolster the art community in the same gallant brushstroke.

Titled ‘Sydney Contemporary Presents 2020’, the portal will be live and shoppable from today (October 1), beginning with an offering of more than 450 artworks from 380-plus leading Australian and international artists. New and covetable pieces will join the line-up each week throughout the month-long presentation, until the window closes on October 31.

Fix Me (2020) by Olympia Antoniadis. Represented by Saint Cloche.

Rising above the disappointment that comes with Sydney Contemporary not being held on-site at Carriageworks this year, the program’s founder, Tim Etchells, believes the digitally presented fair will offer an equally uplifting experience in what has been a humdrum year.

“2020 has been an extraordinary year on many levels,” says Tim. “We believe it is important – now more than ever – to support artists and the arts community, and we have created this new digital initiative specifically to do so.”

It is a chance to acquire not just an artwork but a memory, something to look upon that was created during this unforgettable year.

The online show offers seasoned collectors and emerging art-lovers alike the opportunity to purchase new work by exciting contemporary artists, says Barry Keldoulis, fair director of Sydney Contemporary.

“We encourage people to support the arts community in the most direct way possible – by purchasing the work of artists,” he adds. “It is a chance to acquire not just an artwork but a memory, something to look upon that was created during this unforgettable year.”

An ordinary brick home in WA illuminated by Ian Strange's artistry
Ian first spotted the home in 2015, decades after it belonged to a thriving suburban township of over 700 residents. Since then, the house – like its neighbours – was sold to the Western Australian Land Authority, which plans to clear the plot for an industrial precinct ideated in the late ’90s. Having only conceptualised a proposal […]

'Not just another museum': M+ in Hong Kong by Herzog & de Meuron
The 33 galleries within the M+ building range from the conventional white cube and reconfigurable spaces, screening rooms and multipurpose facilities, to what the architects call “third spaces” (those areas in-between others) and even a reimagined industrial space that forms the foundation of the entire project. “It was the special request for this industrial space […]
